The Pig Roast

One of the many last hurrahs.  I'm really going to miss the drop-everything-and-come-to-a-Pig-Roast mentality that has been pounded into my brain like fufu at 4pm.  Here are some pictures from a most successful Pig Roast.  It was beautifully planned executed and the pig was delicious:

We ate the pig so fast there was only time to take pictures of the veggies.

Another Day, Another KSO Mural

Okay. This is the last one.  One of my many contributions to Peace Corps Ghana's ICT ThinkTank.

Again, pictures of the work as it progresses:

KSO Murals Continue

One terrific mural down, one big white wall to go. This time we had to come up with our own ideas. Given that it is the 50th Anniversary of Peace Corps' presence in Ghana, we thought we'd honor those who got it all started. Kennedy and Nkrumah. We whipped up a few postage stamp looking things and put a nice world tree map with a tasteful 50th logo to boot.

Take a look at the process:

Voila! Notice the 1961 reference.

KSO Murals-Rough Drafts

So, I blame Becky (and a stomach virus) but somehow I got suckered into painting a whole bevy of murals at the KSO (Kumasi Sub Office) these last few days. A good time was had by all (after the stomach virus subsided) and I think on the whole, we did a serious kick ass job.

Here are some pictures of the first one on progress:

Prize Package

Each student who attended STARS this year got all of these great things. I can't believe the generosity of local Ghanaian Companies, Ministries, and Individuals that came together to make this stuff happen.

Integrated Science Book, Social Studies Book, English Book, 12 Assignment Books, 2 bottles of water, 10 packs of Indomie, 1 pen, 2 T-Shirts. Who could ask for anything more?

Community Service Day

As the STARS Conference came to its final Day it was time to go out into Kumasi for some awesome Community Service Projects.

Matt and Vanessa don their Indomie Apparel, ready for Community Service Day!

Da Dan daaaa....

I've officially been in Ghana for 2 years now. And It's hard to believe that in just a month and change I'll be leaving this place for good.

STARS Conference

The Peace Corps Volunteer coordinated STARS (Students Taking Action Reaching for Success)Conference promoting leadership and youth development was held May 29th, 2011- June 4th, 2011 at KNUST (Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology) in Kumasi. This is the second time I've participated in the conference and it is definitely a highlight of my Peace Corps Service.

Each year students from all over Ghana come together to learn and celebrate leadership and potential. This year's conference was a total hit. We did HIV/AIDS education, Hands-On Activities, Community Service, and Tertiary Education Day. For the specific details of the conference and a lovely recap of each of the days activities check out the The STARS Conference Blog.

Here are some pictures I took over the week that I thought would give you a little peek into the week's event:

Name Change

You may have noticed that "The Rrhea River Blog" has recently been renamed "Movin' Right Along". This is in the spirit of my long time love of the Muppets and the fact that my Peace Corps Service will be coming to a close on July 13th, 2011. It's been a great run but it's time for something new. Movin' Right Along.
